Peyton getting throwing arm back
Fantasy Football Today - Fri, 12/21/2012 - 15:00
Colts QB starting to put velocity behind passes
Colts running back Joseph Addai says the velocity on Peyton Manning's short throws last week was game-ready. Addai was one of three players catching passes from Manning after last Wednesday's team workout. Receiver Anthony Gonzalez, center Jeff Saturday and a receiver from the practice squad also took part. On Tuesday, team vice chairman Bill Polian told reporters that Manning was throwing "better" and responded "that's correct" when asked whether Manning had decent velocity on throws 20 to 25 yards down the field.
(SI)
FF Today's Take: This is an encouraging sign for Manning owners in keeper leagues and Colts fans as well, but expect the Manning/Luck dilemma to be one of the most discussed topics in football this offseason leading up to the NFL draft in April.
How soon will Tannehill start in Miami?
Fantasy Football Today - Fri, 05/18/2012 - 16:40
QB still unsure but teammates are raving about rookie
Ryan Tannehill has turned heads in South Beach. Veteran quarterback David Garrard claims he's never seen a young quarterback pick up the playbook so quickly - faster than some of his elders - and center Mike Pouncey believes the Dolphins have found "a very mature rookie." Draft experts pegged Tannehill as a quarterback that needed a year to sit and absorb the pro game, but we imagine he'll be thrust into the lineup sooner than later. He isn't sure when he'll start. "I don't know," Tannehill told ESPN Radio, via ProFootballTalk.com. "They haven't told me anything. I'm just going to go in and compete." (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Having played mostly wide receiver in college, it would be a bit of a shocker to see Tannehill handed the starting reins to open the 2012 season. A dual threat to pick up yards through the air and on the ground, Tannehill has the potential to be a fantasy stud at some point down the road.
Beanie Wells still rehabbing knee
Fantasy Football Today - Fri, 05/18/2012 - 16:30
Cardinals RB might not be ready for OTAs
Five months removed from a second surgery on his right knee in 16 months, Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells is focusing on being ready for training camp and is not sure if he'll be on the practice field when the team begins its OTAs on Tuesday. "I am hopeful, but it's offseason stuff," Wells told Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com. "Being ready for training camp is the most important thing." A 2009 first-round pick, Wells is coming off his most productive season, starting 14 of 15 games and rushing for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns while playing in over 55 percent of the Cardinals offensive snaps. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Wells frustrated fantasy owners with inconsistency in 2011, posting three of his best fantasy performances in his first three games before disappearing for stretches over the remainder of the season. The 23-year-old is a punishing running back though and if healthy in 2012, he could post career numbers in rushing yards and touchdowns.
Dallas Clark visits with Patriots
Fantasy Football Today - Fri, 05/18/2012 - 16:20
Former Pro Bowl TE continues to test free agent waters
Free-agent tight end Dallas Clark visited the New England Patriots on Tuesday, according to a league source. Clark, 32, has played nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Indianapolis Colts. He was released by the Colts on March 7. Originally the 24th pick in the 2003 NFL draft, Clark has 427 catches for 4,887 yards and 46 touchdowns in his career, including a career-best 100 receptions for 1,106 yards in 2009. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Due to a hard-nosed style of play and the slew of injuries that mounted as a result, Clark has been reduced to a fraction of his old self. His days as a reliable fantasy contributor appear to be a distant memory.
Michael Crabtree receiving high praise
Fantasy Football Today - Fri, 05/18/2012 - 16:00
Coach high on 49ers WR
Harbaugh said @KingCrab15 has the best hands he's ever seen. (Twitter)
FF Today's Take: Michael Crabtree has slowly but steadily improved his receiving totals each NFL season. The three-year pro could make the jump to one of the top tiers of fantasy receivers in 2012. He hauled in three touchdown passes and averaged 73 receiving yards per game over his final five games last season.

LeSean McCoy gets five-year extension
Fantasy Football Today - Thu, 05/17/2012 - 15:20
$20,765,000 guaranteed
The Eagles Thursday agreed to terms with running back LeSean McCoy on a five-year contract extension that runs through 2017.
The deal is worth $45 million, including $20,765,000 guaranteed, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: McCoy finished second among fantasy running backs in last season averaging 18.8 FPts per game and should be one of the first RBs taken in your fantasy draft this summer.

Palmer invites TO to Raiders workout
Fantasy Football Today - Wed, 05/16/2012 - 17:40
QB says former star was a good influence on young WR corps
Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer invited former teammate Terrell Owens along on a workout with the team's current wide receiver corps, and told CSN Bay Area that the former Pro Bowler was a good influence on them. "It was great for them, Palmer said. "I love the guys we have," Palmer said when asked if he thought the Raiders should sign Owens. "I don't know where the spots are to be had. You can only carry so many receivers... Training camp, at that position, is going to be really interesting because there's a lot of guys." Owens, who turned 38 in December, did not play in the NFL last season.
(SI)
FF Today's Take: Is the veteran quarterback lobbying for the signing of his former teammate or was this simply to provide a good influence for his young receivers like Palmer claimed? It's difficult to say, but is the much-maligned Owens really the player you'd bring along to provide a positive impact on your inexperienced receivers?
Jags, MJD yet to discuss contract
Fantasy Football Today - Wed, 05/16/2012 - 17:35
Star RB notably absent from OTAs
The Jacksonville Jaguars have had no discussions about a contract extension with Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew currently has two years remaining on a five-year, $31 million deal he signed in 2009. He is still owed $9.4 million on that deal. There has been speculation, however, that Jones-Drew would like to rework his deal prior to the 2012 season. The Jaguars running back has not reported to a voluntary offseason workout program, however neither Jones-Drew nor his agent has indicated that he is holding out for a deal. (SI)
FF Today's Take: This doesn't sound too serious. Continue to monitor his contract status but expect the NFL's 2012 rushing leader to be present for the Jaguars training camp.
Revis impressed with Tebow
Fantasy Football Today - Wed, 05/16/2012 - 17:20
Star cornerback calls former Bronco a natural "leader"
Here's some food for thought: Tim Tebow has unmatched passion - even in the cafeteria. At least that's what Darrelle Revis thinks. When it comes to lunch partners, the All-Pro cornerback says there's no one like the New York Jets backup quarterback. ''Some people have it and some guys don't,'' Revis said Wednesday. ''I just think the passion, it's the passion within, of him wanting to be a leader, wanting to win. You see it all the time - eating lunch you see it. Walking down the hallway you see it.'' (Yahoo Sports)
FF Today's Take: Leadership skills don't exactly translate into fantasy points - particularly in Tebow's case as he's likely to be backing up Mark Sanchez. But if Tebow can seize the starting job at some point during the season, his knack for tucking the ball in and charging toward the endzone for routine 10 to 30 yard gains make him a must-start and thus, worthy of a late round pick.
Britt undergoes another knee surgery
Fantasy Football Today - Wed, 05/16/2012 - 10:50
Arthroscopic procedure for a "minor" issue
Titans receiver Kenny Britt is undergoing arthroscopic surgery today to repair a minor issue with his right knee. (Jim Wyatt via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: Wyatt goes on to say that the Britt could miss a week or two in rehab but the hope is he will be available for the start of the season. Britt tore his ACL and MCL last October and even if this second surgery is "minor" its still a red flag that will deflate his fantasy value in redraft leagues this summer.

Welker signs franchise tender
Fantasy Football Today - Tue, 05/15/2012 - 10:20
One-year, guaranteed $9.515 million for 2012
Wes Welker announced on his Twitter feed that he did sign, writing: "I signed my tender today. I love the game and I love my teammates! Hopefully doing the right thing gets the right results. #leapoffaith" For the moment, Welker will receive a one-year, fully guaranteed $9.515 million for the 2012 season, though he and the team could still negotiate a different, longer-term deal. (Boston Globe)
FF Today's Take: Welker had said that he was in "no rush" to sign but a change of heart means Welker can begin OTAs on Monday with his teammates. Welker finished third among fantasy WRs last season averaging 13.2 FPts per game.
Bucs rookie RB Martin sidelined
Fantasy Football Today - Tue, 05/15/2012 - 10:00
"Slight" hamstring strain
GM Mark Doninik says RB Doug Martin has a slight hamstring strain. (Rick Stroud via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: The rookie running back missed an OTA session today which isn't a big concern right now but is noteworthy. Martin's camp battle with LeGarrette Blount will be worth watching as fantasy owners try and evaluate a potential RBBC situation.
LT Peters ruptures Achilles' again
Fantasy Football Today - Mon, 05/14/2012 - 23:35
Second tear in less than two months
Philadelphia Eagles LT Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles' tendon for a second time this offseason, according to a report from CSNPhilly. The Eagles later confirmed the injury.
Peters reportedly was using a device called a Roll-A-Bout to maneuver around his house. The device reportedly malfunctioned, then Peters fell on his face and ruptured the Achilles again. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: The first injury occurred in late March, so this injury will end any chance he had at returning this season. It's devastating news for a player who was voted first-team All-Pro last season. While an Achilles' injury is not a career-ender, it has certainly limited the effectiveness of many players who returned from it. With his playing future now in some doubt, the addition of LT Demetress Bell in free agency becomes that much more important for the long-term success of the Eagles.
A ruptured Achilles is the worst NFL injury we can think of. Experiencing the same injury twice in one offseason is almost unimaginably unlucky.
He was a long shot to play in 2012, and now any chance for Peters to suit up is out the window. The Eagles will have to rely on former Buffalo Bill Demetress Bell to take Peters' spot, with King Dunlap backing him up. The team traded Winston Justice this offseason.
